Open Source Video is
Here
Many
believe the way of the future, in a World not necessarily wanting
"corporate" products, will be
with Open Source Ogg video (Ogg Theora).
Ogg
authoring & playback software is completely free. It's usefulness will
surely be extended as programmers add interactive features. (MPlayer already
has very useful "Bookmarking" tool.)
Just
for starters, as samples of Ogg Theora, I've uploaded these two:
Lightning storm over Montreal (Mapped & sound effected thunderstorm event)
Whose Web is it Anyway? (Howard Rheingold discusses how the web might evolve)
If
you are running current versions of Firefox or Chrome for Windows, the movie
will play "natively" (just like a picture coming up in a webpage.)
Otherwise,
you may need to have your browser download the movie and you may need to download MPlayer or VLC to play it.
Soon, I'm hoping to add examples of inspiring
documentary videos (for example) from the slums of Mumbai, filmed by locals,
and distributed in this format. No fees to pay to corporate entities in another
continent!
